Included with Premium and Premium Family. Sign in to an account with Premium access and create a profile before starting.

1. Choose a person, language, and level

  1. Sign in to AI Parent and open Home.
  2. Tap Learn, then Open Flash Cards under Vocabulary Flash Cards.
  3. Choose the learner in the Person menu. This keeps their vocabulary progress with their profile.
  4. Under Vocabulary language, choose English or another available language. Then choose a Vocabulary level for that pack.
  5. Tap Start or continue studying.

Which vocabulary languages are available?

Choose from English, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Spanish, French, Japanese, German, and Korean. Check the vocabulary language menu for the packs and levels available in your version of AI Parent.

The English collection spans Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grades 1–12, and Adult. Available levels can vary by language pack. Changing levels does not reset your progress in the other decks.

2. Guess the meaning, reveal, and rate

  1. Look at the card and guess the meaning. Say your guess aloud or think of a sentence that uses the word.
  2. Reveal the answer. Tap Show definition or Show definitions. You can also tap the word to show or hide its definitions.
  3. Check your guess. Read the definition and look for the part of speech and example sentence when available. Tap a speaker icon if you want to hear the word or a section of the card.
  4. Choose your rating. Tap Review Again if you want more practice, or Mastered when you know the word and the meanings shown.

The rating buttons become available after you reveal the definition. Your choice advances to the next card. You can hide the definitions and try recalling the word again before rating it.

Review Again

Keep the word in your practice pool when its meaning is unfamiliar or you need another look.

Mastered

Mark a word you know. This is your own assessment of your knowledge, so take time to read every meaning shown.

3. Listen with device or Cloud text-to-speech

Text-to-speech (TTS) reads card text aloud. Use it to hear a new word, repeat it at your own pace, or listen to an example after you reveal the answer.

  1. Tap the speaker icon labeled Pronounce word to hear the vocabulary word.
  2. Reveal the definition, then tap the speaker beside a definition or example when that control is available. Each speaker plays the text beside it.
  3. On a bilingual card, the word and its explanation may use different languages. AI Parent can use a matching voice for each segment when the voice is available. For example, it can pronounce a Spanish word in Spanish and read an English explanation in English.

Device TTS uses the voices on your device or browser

In the mobile app, the phone or tablet’s speech engine provides the voices. In the web app, your browser supplies the voices it can access. The available languages, accents, and voices depend on your operating system, installed voices, and browser.

If a voice is missing or sounds wrong, look for speech or text-to-speech settings on your device and install or enable a voice for the language you want, if offered. Reopen AI Parent or reload the web app and try the speaker again. A bilingual card may need voices for both languages.

Cloud TTS can provide a backup voice

If your version of Flash Cards shows a Cloud TTS option, enable it to allow cloud pronunciation when a suitable device or browser voice is unavailable or fails. The cloud service converts the selected card text into audio and returns it to AI Parent for playback. This fallback needs an internet connection and a supported cloud voice.

4. Explore a word’s different meanings

Some words have more than one meaning. When a card includes multiple meanings, they appear as a numbered list. A meaning may include a context label, part of speech, and a Common meaning badge.

Examples are labeled to match their meaning, such as Example · Meaning 1. Read each example in context before choosing Mastered. A card with several meanings still counts as one word in your progress.

5. Understand your progress

The vocabulary selection screen shows progress for the selected person and deck.

MeasureWhat it tells you
Cards reviewedDefinition reveals, including repeated reveals of the same word. This can be higher than your word count.
Words reviewedThe number of distinct words you have reviewed in this deck.
Words masteredThe number of words currently marked Mastered in this deck.
Words not reviewedWords in this deck that you have not reviewed yet.
Words to review againWords you have reviewed that are not currently marked Mastered.

For example: revealing the same word’s definition three times adds three card reviews, while that word contributes only once to the deck’s Words reviewed total.

When you have mastered words, Review mastered words lets you revisit them. Once you master every word in a level, you can review that level or choose another.

6. Finish a set or end a session

Cards are grouped into sets. The Set indicator and x of n counter show where you are in the current set.

After a set, the results show card reviews, words reviewed, and words mastered for that set and session, along with study time, your vocabulary streak, and level progress. Choose Continue with another set when it is available, or End session when you are finished.

If you use the back arrow while studying, the Leave vocabulary? dialog offers Keep studying or End session. Ending a session keeps saved reviews and mastery. Allow any saving to finish before closing the app.

From the vocabulary selection screen, tap View recent sessions to see your latest 20 sessions for the selected person, including the level, date, card reviews, words reviewed, and words mastered.

7. Make vocabulary a small daily habit

If you’re exploring parenting with AI, try a five-minute vocabulary routine after reading or homework. Let your child guess the meaning, reveal it together, and make up a new sentence with the word. It’s a practical use of AI for parents who want a simple way to support learning at home. For more AI parenting ideas, see how AI Parent works or build an education plan around the routine.

Your Vocabulary review streak tracks consecutive days of vocabulary review for the selected person. Return regularly and review words to build the streak.

  • Pick a regular moment, such as after homework or before reading.
  • Try saying each word aloud and using it in your own sentence.
  • For younger learners, read the card together and talk about the example.
  • Use Review Again whenever you need more practice. Accurate ratings help you focus on words you are still learning.

Common questions

Do I need Premium?

Yes. Vocabulary Flash Cards is included with Premium and Premium Family. If you see Build vocabulary with Premium, select View Premium to see subscription options.

Why can’t I choose a person?

Create an AI Parent profile first, then return to Flash Cards. See Create a profile for help.

Why is pronunciation unavailable?

Check media volume and audio output first. If only one language is silent or sounds wrong, check for a matching device or browser voice. If your version offers Cloud TTS, enable it and confirm you’re online. You can still reveal definitions and review cards while audio is unavailable. See pronunciation and text-to-speech for setup help.

What if progress fails to save?

Check your internet connection and tap Retry in the error message. Let saving finish before leaving. Reload session returns to saved progress; unsaved changes may be lost.

Can I switch languages or levels?

Yes. Return to the vocabulary selection screen and choose another available language or level. Review progress belongs to the selected learner, so choose the same profile when you return.
